Lithium Batteries
Lithium Batteries or LiFePO4 or LFP are all the same chemistry which is a classification of battery. Other types of classification are Ni-Cad, NiMH or Lead Acid (otherwise known as PB the chemical name for Lead). Gel, MF, Calcium, AGM are all Lead and Acid so that's just one classification but with different designs. Which is similar to LFP or LiFePO4, the same, but different design, maybe from a different lab or patented and named to distinguish it also meaning others can't call their product the same name.
Lithium has the highest energy density commercially available and doesn't use heavy metals so the same size lithium battery as an equivalent lead-acid battery will have a greater Ah capacity and cranking capacity and life cycle. Typically Lithium batteries are manufactured to be much smaller because of the cost but still have the same cranking output as required for certain applications that the manufacturer is targeting. Such as 600CA, 800CA, and 1000CA which are typical for use in Automotive applications. It is also relatively easy for a Lithium battery to produce 200-400CA as required in Motorcycles and therefore many brands/manufacturers target smaller engine sized applications.
Technology plays a part in keeping this vulnerable chemistry in check, with onboard battery management systems. Some are active and others passive. There is a large price difference between to two and should always be considered on an application vs. application basis to ensure safety in operation.
