Traction Batteries
Traction Batteries are typically large industrial design cyclic based design. And are used in electric forklifts, diesel-electric trains, trams, buses, rail systems, automated guided vehicles and many other industrial applications of motive power. When high volumes of batteries are required on a large site it has been typical in the past to use wet cell batteries and have charging rooms for containment of acid, off-gassing while charging and wash-down areas. These days with OSH and every square centimeter of a building is prime real estate, non hazardous, clean room or opportunity charging stations have become more common. Along with the rise of Lithium batteries for early adopters, we are seeing a shift in application with more technology being used to fleet manage an operation.
The applications have high current discharge, cycle much more than traditional "deep cycle" designed batteries or solar, sometimes multiple cycles per day. And therefore have much larger charging current/power supplies to get them back into service quicker and reduce downtime.
