Cranking/Starting or high power/burst energy vs. Deep Cycle which is the term used for a discharge of energy prior to any recharge. Battery Maintainer is a small 3A inline charger much like a DC 2 DC charger. It's ideally suited to maintenance charging a start battery from a larger house battery which is being either maintained from solar or a mains powered charging system.
The units IP65 rated and comes in a variation of 12 volt, 24 volt, 12 to 24 volt and 24 volt to 12 volt. Input and output are individually fused.
